THE PROJECT
The Spera Hot Yoga center is located on the ground floor of a historic building in the heart of Milan.
The original building, dating back to the early 1900s, still features an unchanged facade and a splendid Liberty-style glass portal that leads to the inner courtyard.
The yoga center, managed by Antonio Spera, occupies a large portion of the ground floor, which originally housed spacious warehouses with high ceilings and skylights, as well as smaller artisan workshops.
The instructors' changing rooms and a corridor area have been created in the spaces of the old workshop, preserving the interesting iron-framed windows. The yoga room, along with the adjoining pilates room and changing rooms, has been carved out of the former.
THE CHOICE
A pellet heating system has been strongly desired by the owner since the opening of the yoga center.
The motivations were different: primarily aesthetic and ecological, but also economic.
The lively fire of the stove allows for creating the right atmosphere in the yoga room, illuminating the environment in an extremely suggestive way.
Secondly, the owner was particularly keen on using a fuel like pellets that is more environmentally friendly. In the urban area of Milan, there are very strict limitations on fine dust emissions. It was necessary, therefore, to opt for a product certified with at least 4 stars for environmental quality.
Finally, with a traditional heating system, maintaining a constant temperature of 30°C for many hours during the day would have been too costly. The pellet stove has allowed for a drastic reduction in costs.
The heat generated by the stove releases an entirely different energy than a fan. It is efficient, but also ecological, natural, and vibrant.

HEATED SPACES AND DAILY USE
The pellet stove has been installed in the yoga room, the largest space in the entire center, with an area of over 100 square meters and a height of over 4 meters.
The chosen model is an air stove, with a powerful front fan and a ceramic covering that helps distribute radiant heat in a pleasant and efficient manner.
The stove operates for approximately 20 hours during the day, year-round, including the summer.
With such intensive use, extraordinary maintenance needs to be carried out at least twice a year to ensure perfect functionality and the cleaning of the flue pipes.
The choice of fuel is also very important. The owner uses only certified high-quality Austrian pellets, which produce fewer residues and emissions. This also allows for limiting daily cleaning operations, which should not become too burdensome for the instructors who carry them out themselves.
Usually, an automatic program is set, and the stove regulates itself to maintain the desired temperature in different time periods.
As needed, instructors can also easily manage the manual mode using the remote control.
