THE PROJECT

Inserted within the typical Ligurian urban cluster, a house from the 1700s has come back to life.
In the hamlet consisting of attached houses, a dwelling vacant for more than 14 years, protected by the environmental heritage authority as a historical residence, has been renovated. The house, built on various levels due to the irregular conformation of the surrounding terrain, comprises an entrance to the dining area, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, and a spacious basement with a room.

The renovation work on the house has been, as much as possible, conservative, bringing back to life the low vaulted ceilings typical of the area's residences and the lime walls.
The flooring, in terracotta in the living area and Venetian terrazzo in the sleeping area, has mostly remained original.
To avoid intervening on the stone walls, the decision was made to install the electrical system visibly, using copper pipes and vintage switch plates.
The bathroom stands out for the chromatic ceramic wall covering, the minimalism of the glass partition, and the brass faucets: each element contributes to renewing the spaces without transforming them radically.

The owner's intention was to create a second home "with an essential style, enriched only by a few retro elements," maintaining the characteristics of the existing space.
The living spaces on the ground floor have retained their original purpose, while the large basement has been converted into the owner's mother's studio, a florist with a passion for painting. In this space, the old wood fireplace has been preserved, adjacent to a smaller room used as a guest room.

"A vacation home dedicated to gathering passions and welcoming friends."

THE PELLET STOVE

Within the dining area, the pellet stove meets the specific requirements of the property that wanted to bring the element of fire to the ground floor as well.
The house, lacking a heating system, needed a source of warmth for the winter months. Without invasive interventions, a ventilated air heating system through a pellet stove was chosen, which directly heats the living area and, by keeping the doors open, also the bedroom.
The stove's function is to keep the structure of the walls healthy by removing the typical moisture of these dwellings.
The characteristics of the space guided the choice of a compact cast iron pellet stove, but with the necessary power to heat the 70m2 ground floor during the winter months.
The Decò stove with 8kW power heats an area of about 40m2in the living area, plus the two rooms of 20m2 e 10m2.
It is possible to manage the stove directly from a smartphone, through a dedicated app, allowing complete control both outside and inside the house.
