5 things to know about pellet stoves and hot water

All the potential of pellet stoves

Pellet stoves are undoubtedly the most convenient and advantageous solution for home heating. So why not use this system to also produce hot water?

Let’s look at 5 things you should know about the potential of a pellet stove to produce hot water.

1. Pellet stoves can produce hot water

When people think of pellet stoves, they often think of a supplementary home heating system, to be used alongside gas heating to increase comfort and reduce bills. In reality, technology has greatly expanded the potential of these stoves.

Not everyone knows that stoves—more precisely hydro stoves—can be connected to the heating system to send hot water into the radiator circuit.

2. Hydro stoves can be integrated with existing heating systems

To do this, the pellet stove must, of course, be connected to the home's water system. Even if it sounds complicated, the connection is not at all difficult. You just need to connect the stove to the hydraulic manifold, and that’s it.

Water is taken from the home water supply, heated by the stove using pellet combustion, and then reintroduced into the system, bringing hot water to the radiator coils or to the underfloor heating system, just like a regular boiler.

3. You can also save on domestic hot water production

The hydro stove can produce domestic hot water, that is, not for the heating system, but for showering and daily use.

It is possible to use a pellet stove to produce hot water for both heating and sanitary use.

To use the hydro stove with the sanitary circuit, it is always advisable to install a buffer tank.

What is a buffer tank? It is a steel tank insulated with special material that helps optimize the heat produced by combustion, heating a large amount of water that is stored and, when needed, mixed with cold water to reach the desired temperature.

4. Pellet: a renewable and sustainable energy source

Pellet is a natural, renewable, ecological, and sustainable material because it is derived from wood processing waste.

Thanks to its characteristics, pellet ensures excellent heating performance, with nearly double the efficiency compared to an equivalent amount of firewood.

5. Tax deductions

It’s important to remember that purchasing a high-quality pellet stove may qualify you for government incentives or tax benefits, depending on your country’s regulations. In this article, you’ll find an in-depth explanation of the features of the best pellet stoves.
